Time: 13.00 – 14.30
Location: Room D 600 and on Zoom
Higher seminar in Translation Studies. Tiina Tuominen, Professor, University of Turku.
In this talk, I will first briefly introduce the model of user-centered translation (UCT), which employs the concept of usability to integrate the target audience’s perspective in the translation process and in the evaluation of translations. Then, I will discuss how UCT could be applied to audiovisual translation, and specifically to subtitling. I will describe my proposal for a user-centered subtitling process, and I will introduce ideas on how selected UCT and usability tools could be fine-tuned for a subtitling context. I hope to initiate a discussion on what usability could mean in the case of subtitling and how to develop the UCT tools further to support the work of subtitlers.
