The DEM over Tarfala was generated by digitizing the analog 1:20000 map over the area (Holmlund and Schytt 1987; ISBN 91-588-4264-0), reorienting it in the Swedish national coordinate grid and interpolating digitized values. Cut-outs in the DEm are caused by limitations in the original map. There are also problems in the lowermost regions of the DEM and the map that have not been rectified. However, since these are outside the high alpine terrain surrounding the valley, we assume they will not cause problems in any use of the model for the massif. Where ground constitutes glaciers, the ground surface is the same as the glacier surface. We have detailed bedrock topography maps for Storglaciären (Björnsson, 1981; Herzfeld et al., 1993), Isfallsglaciären (Björnsson, 1981) and Rabots glaciär (Björnsson, 1981)
