Individual Life Chances in Social Context — A Longitudinal Multi-Methods Perspective on Social Constraints and Opportunities

The project is funded by a Starting Grant of 1500000 EUR from the European Research Council (ERC) for the years 2011 – 2016 (starting grant no. 263422). It is headed by Professor Jens Rydgren at the Department of Sociology at Stockholm University, and involves researchers from several different institutions.

The main focus of the project is on contextual factors explaining differences in young adults’ life chances in a longitudinal perspective. By life chances we mean the structural contexts, such as social networks and neighborhoods, that influence choices and behavior with consequences for education, labor market situation, health, and criminality.
