Description

This project will study the dynamics of the director interlock network.
The director interlock network emanates from the fact that directors
sometimes sits on more than one board, and hence create an “interlock”
between the represented board. This director interlock network is a
social structure in which the firms are embedded, and it is shown to
have real-world consequences on economic decisions and performances of
the firms. Using the newly developed stochastic actor-oriented models
together with a unique dataset following a director interlock network
during more than 20 years, the driving rationales as well as boundaries
behind the network dynamics and formation will be analysed. The project
will analyse network from the perspective of the firm (e.g. do firm tend
to link with other specific firms, and what characteristics decide what
other firm to link to) as well as the directors (e.g. is there path
dependence in director careers). However, using the new and, in these
types of studies, never before employed analytical tools it will be
possible to analyse these two entities simultaneously. This will cover
new grounds and give new understandings regarding the dynamic two-way
association between directors’ and firms’ positions in the director
interlock networks
