Courses and programmes

Zoology is a broad field, and the department's researchers teach a variety of subjects and courses, such as ecology, ethology, genetics, and biodiversity. All teaching in biology is administered by the the Department of Biology Education (BIG) which also handles admission and study guidance.

Teachers from the Department of Zoology participate in a number of courses in all bachelor's programs. An important tradition that we cherish is that parts of the teaching provide contact with real animals and are sometimes located in the field. Among other things, the department has its own research station Tovetorp in Sörmland, which most of our courses visit for shorter or longer field sessions. More information can be found at the Department of Biology Education (BIG), which administers teaching at the bachelor's level.

Teachers from the Department of Zoology participate in a number of courses at master's level. More information can be found at the Department of Biology Education (BIG), which administers teaching at master's level.

The Department of Zoology also participates in the following master's programs. The programs are also administered by BIG.

Available PhD positions at the Department of Zoology

The Stockholm University BioResearch School organizes PhD courses for students at any of the Biology departments at SU no matter their subject area. Hence, all courses are open for all students unless otherwise stated. In addition to subject-related courses, the BioResearch School organizes introductory course, obligatory for all PhD students in Biology and a requirement for those expected to participate in teaching, as well as other general  interest courses and special events, such as workshops and the annual PhD Day. Many of these activities provide ample opportunities for trans-disciplinary interactions and networking with students working on a broad range of problems.

The BioResearch School is led by two coordinator, which work closely together and report to a steering committee appointed by the Biology Section of the SU Faculty of Science.
