Research subjects

At ERG research is conducted within three main areas: ethnology, history of religions and gender studies.

The research is focused on highly various topics situated in different contexts in time and space. The three disciplines share a commitment to making the cultural and social world intelligible by means of fieldwork and studies of all kinds of textual sources.

In all three disciplines, research is carried out in Sweden as well as abroad, though within History of Religions, there is, among other interests, a strong bent towards fieldwork in Asia, and Ethnologists have often specialised in Swedish culture, past and present.

Most of the researchers alternate between publishing in English and Swedish, preferring Swedish when they want to reach out to a wider audience and participate in current debate. All three disciplines offer great opportunities to make such contributions.
