Mika Sipponen to receive an ERC Starting Grant on lignin research!
Mika Sipponen has been awarded a prestigious ERC Starting Grant worth EUR 1.5 million for the project Circular lignin materials from well-defined functional building blocks (CIRCULIG).
Researchers at Stockholm University and Sinopec Shanghai Research Institute of Petrochemical Technology have demonstrated the high-throughput phase elucidation of highly complex polycrystalline zeolite materials using the automated serial rotation electron diffraction (SerialRED) method. Using SerialRED, five zeolite phases have been identified from a highly complex synthesized mixture.
A new intersectoral and interdisciplinary project between nine Swedish Universities and MAX IV – a Ph.D. programme called PRISMAS – launches in January 2023. The program is dedicated to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Horizon Europe's essential research and innovation areas. The project will create a connected network of next-generation X-ray experts, enabling various stakeholders to take full advantage of world-leading synchrotron facilities such as MAX IV, while tackling current societal challenges in the same breath.
In the human body, crystals – made of things such as calcium or urea – form masses that can cause pain and serious health conditions, such as gout. Researchers from the Xiaodong Zou group reported a new method to control the growth of ammonium urate crystals - the substance known to cause kidney stones in dolphins.
