Study abroad
The Department of Statistics has an exchange agreement with the University of Bologna. You can also study abroad through the central exchange agreements at Stockholm University.
To study abroad improves your CV, your language skills, and you gain experience from different cultures for your future work life.
There are several ways to study abroad during your studies at the Department of Statistics. You can travel through the exchange agreement at the department or through the central agreements at Stockholm University. You can also write your bachelor's or master's thesis abroad, as a Minor Field Study.
Another possibility is to study abroad as a "free mover", or to apply for an Erasmus+ scholarship for a traineeship abroad.
Study in Bologna
The Department of Statistics has an exchange agreement with the University of Bologna, within the European commision exchange program: Erasmus+.
Here, at the Dipartimento di Scienze Statistiche, you can study statistics, master's courses in statistics or master's courses in quantitative finance.
Next application period: 15 January–15 February 2025
The next time you can apply for nomination to study abroad through the Department of Statistics Erasmus agreement is for studies in the autumn semester 2025.
How to apply for exchange studies in Bologna.
Application to be nominated for exchange studies
The applications for nominations are opened once per year from mid february to mid march for the Atumn semester or the academic year. The applications are done in two steps: First you apply for a nomination to our partner university. If you get nominated, you will apply for statistics courses at the University of Bologna.

Step 1: Apply for nomination
The application for nomination is made in two steps:
- Click on the link to the application form and fill in the application. You will then receive an email from the system.
- Log in to Mobility Online via the link in the e-mail. Fill in the phone number and address and upload documents with preliminary course selection. Please note that preliminary course selection is the only document that needs to be uploaded in the application.
Selection criteria
All applications that have been handed in on time will be assessed based on the following criteria:
- Complete application. Incomplete applicatons will not be assessed.
- Previous exchange studies. Students who have not been on an exchange at Stockholm University before will be given priority.
- Awarded grades. Applicants will be selected based on weighted average grades on completed courses from the Department of Statistics.
The exchange coordinator and the director of studies at the Department of Statistics decides which students will be nominated.
All applicants will be handed a decision on wether they are accepted or denied a place within the exchange program for the next semester.

Apply for courses according to the instructions.
Language preparations
When you have been nominated (and after the completed exchange) you shall make a language test online. If you will study at your B- or C-language, you can also take a preparational language course online.

Scholarships
Accepted Erasmus+ students are exempted from study fees at the receiving universities, but other smaller fees may occur. Swedish Erasmus+ students have a right to receive study grants from CSN and an Erasmus+ scholarship. The Erasmus+ scholarship is based on where you are going to study and the number of days you will be abroad. baseras på The scholarshop is handed out at the beginning of your exchange.
Insurance
All outgoing exchange students from Stockholm University are covered by the ‘Student UT’ insurance by Kammarkollegiet. If you are traveling within the EU or EEA you should also bring your European Health Insurance Card.

Write your thesis abroad
If you want to write your thesis or collect data abroad when you are admitted to a thesis course at Stockholm University, you can apply through a scholarship program. Either Erasmus+ or Minor Field Studies.

Do a traineeship abroad
Students at Stockholm University can apply for a Erasmus+ scolarship to do a traineeship with a company or organization in an European country within that is included in the Erasmus programme. There are several types of traineeships.
