A number of theoretical perspectives and methodological approaches are represented in the research group. It comprises studies of social and cultural notions about health and illness, as well as studies of how such notions are constructed in everyday life and exerts influence on people’s lives. This is explored in, for example, the encounters between caregivers and patients, and the individuals’ sense making regarding their own health. The group also includes research with a focus on education and professions in the field of health. Issues are addressed at the levels of individual, group and society. The pedagogical perspective is salient in, e.g., the focus on how peoples’ experiences of health and illness are framed by communication and learning as both an individual and a social phenomenon.
