English children's literature for primary school teachers, years 4-6

This free-standing course is aimed at students who intend to teach English for young learners, with a special focus on primary school years 4-6. It is relevant if you are working as a teacher but need to study more courses to become eligible to teach English at primary school years 4-6.

The course looks at literature for young learners from the perspective of literature studies. It deals with text analysis through the use of basic literary concepts in English. Literature for young learners is also elucidated in terms of its aesthetic, historical and social contexts. In addition, children’s response to literary text in English is also treated in relation to other media forms.

Course material, including a full course description, will be made available for registered students on the learning platform Athena at the start of the course. You will get access to Athena once you have registered and activated your university account.
