Applied Human Geography

The course covers the conditions, objectives, working methods, and techniques for conducting an external project on assignment. A project on assignment refers to a task developed through dialogue between the course participant and the strategic considerations of an external organization.

The course is a mandatory part of the Bachelor's Programme in Human Geography – Society, Environment, and Global Processes, 180 credits, but it is also available as a standalone course.

Eligibility requires 120 credits, including a bachelor’s degree project, in human geography or geography, or an equivalent qualification.

The course consists of Research Methods, 7.5 credits, and Applied Project on Assignment in Human Geography, 22.5 credits.

Literature studies are combined with practical applications and components conducted in collaboration with the professional sector. The course concludes with a more extensive applied project.


Teaching Format

The instruction includes introductions, lectures, seminars, exercises, and supervision.

Learning Outcomes

After the course, you are expected to be able to:

  • Describe different approaches for carrying out an project on assignment.
  • Use methods relevant to executing a project on assignment.
  • Complete a project on assignment within given timeframes.
  • Critically and independently evaluate work methods and approaches for conducting a project with a human geography focus.

Assessment

Assessment is conducted through exams, submission assignments, active participation in seminars and exercises, as well as oral and written presentations.

Several teachers evaluate and assign grades within the course.
