Writing and data visualization in natural sciences

Being able to communicate clearly through writing and data visualization is important both in academia and in many other careers.

These are not one-time skills, but something most professionals continue to develop throughout their careers. This course is designed to offer you an opportunity to develop your own skills through practice, text analysis, peer review, and learning about the theoretical concepts behind effective communication.

  • Selection process: Candidates will be ranked based on the number of completed course credits within Natural Sciences and on the motivation provided (answers in the application questionnaire).
  • You can apply until the day before course start, which is 19 Janaury 2026.

Applicants will be notified of any offer of admission to the course continuosly.

How can I integrate this course into my degree?
This course is given at a 25% pace and is designed to be taken alongside the Master's project. We recommend that participants start their degree project earlier and continue it at a 75% pace during the spring. The course is based on seminars as well as both individual and group assignments. There will be some flexibility in scheduling the different components of the course, to allow students to combine it with, for example, practical work related to their degree project. Consult your study counselor to discuss if and how you can include the course in your degree.

The course is based on seminars as well as both individual and group assignments. This course is given at a 25% pace and is designed to be taken alongside the Master's project.

The schedule will be available no later than one month before the start of the course. We do not recommend print-outs as changes can occur. At the start of the course, your department will advise where you can find your schedule during the course.
Note that the course literature can be changed up to two months before the start of the course.
