Statistics and data analysis I
Data is now everywhere in society. The course Statistics and Data Analysis I gives you the basics for understanding and using data, both as a citizen and as an advanced data analyst.
The course gives you an overview of methods for statistical data analysis and its many applications. The course begins with an introduction to data followed by practical data management in the popular statistical programming language R. Relationships between variables are analyzed, and you are trained in how statistical models can be used to predict new data. Conclusions from data are always uncertain, and an important part of the course is therefore probability calculations. Probability theory is then used in the inference methods that make it possible to draw correct conclusions from data and make optimal decisions under uncertainty.
The course consists of two parts. The first part includes collecting, processing, visualizing and summarizing data in the programming language R. A large part of the part deals with correlation and regression analysis that leads to methods for prediction. The part concludes with basic probability theory. The second part deals with random variables and probability distributions. A central part of the part is inference, i.e. statistical methods for drawing conclusions about various phenomena from data. The course concludes with an introduction to decision-making under uncertainty.
