Stockholm University has been awarded another grant by the Swedish Research Council to recruit an international guest researcher, this time an atmospheric scientist.
At the end of October 2025, The Swedish Research Council announced additional funding to higher education institutions in the call for Proposals to recruit international guest researchers to Sweden. Funding is provided to recruit distinguished researchers whose research activities are outside Europe.

This time, Stockholm University is granted funds to recruit one researcher. It is Matthew D Shupe, who is an atmospheric scientist at the University of Colorado and the NOAA Physical Science Laboratory in Boulder, USA. Gunilla Svensson, professor at the Department of Meteorology, is the Swedish researcher behind the application. Matt Shupe is being recruited to strengthen Swedish experimental expertise in cloud-atmosphere-surface interactions in polar regions. He is expected to start his position in Stockholm in March 2026.
“We are very happy and excited that Matt is coming to Stockholm University. This will be a significant enhancement for experimental polar research, which strengthens our strong model-based climate research,” says Gunilla Svensson.
In September 2025, it was announced that Stockholm University is granted funds under the same call to recruit Aaron Hughes, Professor at Department of Religion and Classics at University of Rochester in the USA.
