Stockholm University condemns violence against students in Iran

Today, the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions published a statement expressing its deep concern over the situation in Iran, where, according to international media reports, Iranian security forces both deployed tear gas and shot with live ammunition at protesting students at the Sharif University of Technology in Tehran. According to reports, the university is now closed.
When peaceful protests by students are put down with brutal violence, it is of course in strong conflict with all the values we as a university protect, such as democracy, human rights and freedom of expression. Tear gas and loaded weapons do not belong on any university campus, and Stockholm University strongly condemns any such display of violence.
