Stockholm University strengthens its innovation efforts with new annual initiative
A new chapter of innovation at Stockholm University began on Tuesday as the university hosted its very first Innovation Day at Campus Albano. The event brought together scientists, PhD students, students, experts and innovators with a common goal: to translate university research into societal benefit.

The initiative is led by the Stockholm University Innovation Office, which aims to inspire more people to take their ideas further.
“As an innovation adviser, I see every day how important it is for both staff and students to understand how the innovation system works – it’s the key to turning ideas into reality and taking them to the next level. That’s why it was especially rewarding to see so many people choose to attend and take part in the day’s activities. We’re very pleased and grateful for the strong level of engagement,” says Martin Arvidsson, Innovation Adviser.
Throughout the day, participants were offered inspirational talks, impact stories – real-life examples of research ideas making their way into society – and opportunities to mingle and network in the expo area.
With a clear focus on collaboration and support structures, Innovation Day demonstrated how SU researchers and students can move from theory to practice with the right guidance and funding.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to take part in SU’s first Innovation Day! It was particularly valuable to meet researchers and students from so many different disciplines – a powerful reminder of the strength found in interdisciplinary perspectives. Innovation is born in these encounters, and I look forward to continued dialogue and collaboration,” says Maria Hammarsten, Business Development Manager at Atrium Ljungberg.
Innovation Day is intended as a recurring event, aiming to strengthen Stockholm University’s position as a key player in the Swedish innovation ecosystem.
