Research
My research area covers picturebooks, illustration history, Avant-Garde and modernism studies. In my dissertation Images of Modernism (2008) I studied modernist aesthetics in Nordic picturebooks, a topic I continued to investigate in a biography about the picturebook artist Eva Billow (2014).
Together with Bettina Kümmerling Meibauer i co-edited Children's Literature and the Avant-Garde (2015) (2015) which was awarded IRSCL Edited Book Award 2017 och ChLA Edited Book Award 2017 and Photography in Children’s Literature (2023), which is the first international study that examines the artistic techniques used within photographic books for children.
I am a board member of European Network of Picturebook Research and a former jury member of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (2011-2023). In 2019 I was co-organizer for the IRSCL confrence in Stockholm with the theme "Silence and Silencing".
I am an editorial member and one of the authors of The history of Swedish children's literature (2024), a work which spans more than 700 years and will be published in September 2024.
