Eirini Akavalou

About me

Eirini is a doctoral student in Language Education at the Department of Teaching and Learning. Her PhD research project focuses on the provision of multilingual study mentoring in Sweden based on an ethnographic study of multilingual language learning trajectories of newly arrived Greek-speaking students in Swedish Schools.

She holds a Bachelor's degree in Primary Education from the University of Patras in Greece, and a Master's degree in International and Comparative Education from the University of Stockholm. In her Master Thesis she wrote about "Swedish and Greek Teachers’ Perceptions of their Role in Heritage Language Education".

Eirini has work experience as a teacher and teacher assistant in primary school, mother tongue teacher and multilingual mentor in Greek, kindergarten teacher, and English language instructor among others. Her research interests include minority and heritage languages, sociolinguistics and multilingual education.
