About me
I am a PhD candidate at the Department of Asian, Middle Eastern and Turkish Studies at Stockholm University, since May 2018.
I hold a B.A. in History and Social Sciences of Religion from Uppsala University, as well as a B.A. in Arabic, and a M.A. in Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures from Stockholm University.
From 2011-2015 I was working at the department, first as a teacher on an hourly basis, and subsequently as a Teaching Assistant (Amanuensis).
Between 2015 and 2018, I spent close to three years in Palestine, working for the Temporary International Presence in Hebron (TIPH) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Jerusalem.
Teaching
I teach the course Early History and Religions of the Middle East (MENA:s tidiga historia och religioner) for first semester students.
Research
My research focus on the hermeneutical modes and methods employed in the exegesis of the Qurʾān by proponents of the “Qurʾān alone movement” in Egypt. The Qurʾān alone movement (whose followers are sometimes known as Qurʾāniyyūn) is a modern current within Islamic theology that hold the Qurʾān as the sole scriptural authority, and thus reject the value of the prophetic traditions (al-aḥādīṯ).
