Eva BernhardtProfessor Emerita in Demography
About me
Eva Bernhardt (Ph.D. demography, University of Pennsylvania, USA, 1971). Professor emerita of Demography, Stockholm University.
Her main research area has been family demography, with an emphasis on the intersection between work and family life, in particular from a gender perspective. Thus, she has for many years focused on attitudes and values regarding gender equality, family formation, career ambitions of young adults, and the life choices that they make. She has held numerous grants from Swedish agencies of research funding (the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation, the Swedish Research Council, and the Swedish Council for Working Life and Social Research).
Eva Bernhardt initiated the Young Adult Panel Study (YAPS) in 1998 (www.suda.su.se/yaps), and has been responsible for the three rounds of the survey carried out in 1999, 2003, and 2009. The main purpose of this longitudinal database is to enable studies of the complex, reciprocal relationships between work and family-related attitudes and demographic behaviour.
She has served as the president of the Swedish Demographic Society, and for a number of years she served as the Swedish expert on family policy on the EU-financed European Observatory on Demography, the Social Situation and the Family. She has also been involved in a number of international comparative research collaborations.
