Johanna Fernholm is an Assistant Professor at Stockholm Business School. Johanna lectures on subjects related to marketing, international marketing, corporate social responsibility (CSR) communication, sustainability, branding, project management and qualitative methods. Johanna is also supervising and examining theses. 

Johanna holds a PhD in business administration from Stockholm University. She defended her dissertation in marketing Codes of Conduct as Ethical Branding? Responsibility in Companies with Global Value Chains (Uppförandekoder som etisk varumärkning? Ansvar i företag med globala värdekedjor) in 2013. The dissertation explores the construction of social responsibility in companies practicing ‘ethical trade’ in globalization, in relation to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), media and other corporations. During the doctoral programme, Johanna also conducted research as a Visiting Junior Researcher at Chulalongkorn University (Thailand) and at University of Exeter (United Kingdom).

Currently, Johanna has a research interest in sustainability aspects on tourism; backpacker tourists and their use of social media, as well as tourism companies and their marketing and stakeholder communication. She has a particular interest in investigating the relationship between safari tourism, private game reserves and stakeholder engagement in local communities.

During the fall 2018 Johanna is acting as a Visiting Researcher at University of Pretoria (South Africa). Johanna has also been a Visiting Researcher at Linnaeus University and an Assistant Professor at Södertörn University in Sweden. Johanna has a previous background as a journalist working mainly within a NGO context, including shorter periods in Southern Africa and South Asia.
