About me

Jimmy Pettersson is a PhD student in Art History at the Department of Culture and Aesthetics since February 2015.

His research departs from an interest in how museums and galleries worked with film in the 1950 – 1960s in Sweden. Today, film, video and other moving images are a natural part of an art museum’s exhibitions and of contemporary art; in the 1950s, however, Sweden’s leading art institutions Nationalmuseum (Sweden’s national gallery) and Moderna Museet (Sweden’s modern museum of art) made a strong stand for film as art.

Working within the field of media history Petterssons thesis will account primarily for the presence of film in Nationalmuseum and Moderna Museet and highlight the historic and contemporary significance of film within these institutions.
