Research areas: Religions of the Roman empire and the origins of Christianity; ancient therapeutics, miracle and magic; sectarianism and apocalypticism; religion and terrorism; religion and insanity; seventeenth-century religious radicalism and interreligious encounter (particularly constructions of Islam in early modern Europe).
