About me
I am a professor of Scandinavian languages, since 2017 retired, at the Department of Swedish Language and Multilingualism. With longer and shorter interruptions, I have been active there since 1975. During 2000–2009 I was head of the Language Council of Sweden.

A Swedish perspective on Norwegian language policy 1814-2017The article compares the language policy history of Norway and Sweden 1814-2017. In spite of the striking and wellknown dissimlarities during the 19th and 20th centuries, the language policies of today are very much alike. This is explained by, first, fundamental parallels in language policy history, second, the fact that the language policy experiences and discourses of previous periods are lesds important to the formation of contemnporary language policy than current linguistic practices, language ecology and general political and societal conditions.
