About me
Joshua Weiss is an Assistant Professor at the IIES and received his Phd in Economics from New York University in 2020. Joshua’s main research agenda focuses on the importance of strategic interactions between firms for macroeconomic outcomes and optimal policy. In particular, he studies the interaction between commitment and market power: how large firms take into account the effects of their actions on their competitors. In recent work, he shows that this interaction can explain recent increases in market concentration and markups, and that policy makers should tax operating profits to discourage over-investment in irreversible inputs by large firms. In ongoing work, he applies similar ideas to understand the recent slowdown in growth.
