I am a PhD Student at the Department of Education, Stockholm University since 2022. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Educational Science from the University of Muenster, Germany and a Master's Degree in International and Comparative Education from Stockholm University.
During my studies I discovered my interest for education in prison and for my current dissertation project I am exploring education in Swedish prisons and the conditions for learning and participation. I am interested in the pedagogical staff’s experiences of working in correctional settings and how they support learning. The project will also include the prisoners’ perspectives and shed light on the meaning of education for them and their reasons for participating respectively not participating in education while incarcerated.
In Sweden, individuals can study adult education while incarcerated. However, the conditions for education differ from those found in the wider society. This project aims at exploring how education is organized in Swedish prisons and what it is like to teach and study in prison.
