About me

Mahmoud Mazarji holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Tehran and is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Materials and Environmental Chemistry (MMK), Stockholm University. Supported by a prestigious grant from the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowship, he will be working on LIGNin-IRON (LIGNIRON) complexes for the removal of nano-plastics in enhanced coagulation-flocculation from water (Grant agreement ID: 101110639). This research is ongoing under the supervision of Professor Mika Sipponen within the Sustainable Materials Chemistry (SUSMATCHEM) research group.

Past experience:

  • 2017-2018, Visiting PhD Student, Technical University of Denmark, focused on lignin valorization and phenolic value-added production;
  • 2020-2023, Postdoctoral Researcher, Southern Federal University, focused on soil remediation techniques in polluted areas, targeting PAHs and heavy metals;
  • 2023-2024, Postdoctoral Researcher, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, focused on magnetic biochar-based materials for anaerobic digestion.

Research

The LIGNIRON initiative sets out with an ambitious objective: to develop lignin-iron hybrid materials tailored for remediating water contaminated with Nano-Plastics.
