Mayya Shmidt

About me

Maya Shmidt is a doctoral candidate in Sociology at Uppsala University. Her research focuses on the sharing economy in Sweden, with a particular interest in how organizational fields take shape and evolve. Drawing on neo-institutional theory, her dissertation examines the institutionalization of the sharing economy as an organizational field—defined by a shared system of meaning and sustained interaction among its members.

Within this field, Maya’s work pays special attention to non-profit organizations, exploring how they navigate and negotiate the boundaries between multiple institutional logics, including market logics (such as product and service exchange) and non-market logics (such as gift exchange).

Her dissertation is closely connected to SCORE’s research themes on the organization of markets and their societal consequences. During her stay at SCORE, Maya is pursuing a sub-project on non-profit organizations in the Swedish sharing economy and is actively contributing to the research environment through seminars, dialogue, and collaboration with colleagues.
