Research

My research at the Department of Ecology, Environment and Plant Sciences deals with the large-leaved lupine, Lupinus polyphyllus. This invasive plant has recently spread across Northern Europe, including most of Sweden, and threatens local species in several ways, particularly for native herbs and insects. In order to better develop and focus efforts to fight lupines, our research project has two main prongs. Firstly, we want to carefully map the distribution of large-leaved lupine in Sweden, and correlate it with environmental variables such as climate and soil, to better understand how lupines spread and in what environments they thrive. Secondly, through a multi-year field experiment combined with demographic modeling, we want to evaluate different methods to manage lupines. The long-term goal of the project overall is to provide research materials to guide future pest management of the large-leaved lupine.

Previously I have also researched insect life cycles and their relationship to local climate, with a particular focus on the speckled wood butterfly, Pararge aegeria.
