Research
Fascinated by the catalysis of energy conversion in nature, I focus on studying the proteins of the respiratory chain that enable this process. My primary research interest is the bacterial protein NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase, commonly known as respiratory Complex I. This intricate protein plays a critical role in metabolism, using energy from redox reactions to drive proton pumping across biological membranes. The resulting proton gradient drives ATP synthesis by the F0F1 ATP synthase, fuelling cellular energy production. Using a range of advanced biochemical and biophysical techniques and assays on Complex I incorporated in liposomes, I aim to investigate this protein and its role in mitochondria.
