About me
I am a social epidemiologist and Associate Professor of Public Health at the Department of Public Health Sciences at Stockholm University.
As a researcher, my overall focus is to better understand the role of social determinants of health in different outcomes in childhood as well as their consequences throughout life. I have a particular interest in vulnerable groups such as those in contact with child welfare services. Research related to psychiatric epidemiology (i.e., mental health and well-being outcomes) is also prominent among my interests.
I am a member of The Nordic Interdisciplinary Cohort Network (ICON), acting as coordinator in Sweden.
Teaching
At the Department, I am the manager of the master's courses "Psychological Perspectives on Health" and "In-depth course in Stata".
I supervise students at the master's and PhD levels in Public Health.
Research
I work as a Researcher at the Department of Public Health Sciences and coordinator of the research project "Drivers of Inequalities in Families Involved in the Child Welfare System" (FORTE), together with Professor Ylva B. Almquist.
Four particular tracks can be distinguished within my research work:
1) psychosocial circumstances in childhood and subsequent health behaviours;
2) short-term and long-term health consequences of disadvantageous socioeconomic and family conditions in childhood;
3) mechanisms that can conceivably link socioeconomic disadvantages in
childhood with later health outcomes;
4) how social inequalities affect families involved with child welfare services.
My international collaborators are the Health Inequalities Policy Research Group (HIP-R) led by Professor David Taylor-Robinson at the Department of Public Health and Policies at the University of Liverpool (UK); and Professor Claudia Lopes (Psychiatrist and Social Epidemiologist) from the Institute of Social Medicine at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) (Brazil).
