Time: 14.00 – 15.00

Location: B237

Seminar with Dr. Isabel Pires from University of Manchester, hosted by Prof. Nicole Pamme

About the speaker:

Dr. Isabel Pires’s research focusses on characterising cellular signalling pathways associated to hypoxia and their exploitation for therapeutic benefit, with a particular emphasis in improving response to radiotherapy. Isabel did her PhD at the University of Manchester with Professor Caroline Dive. She then moved to the University of Oxford for a postdoc in Professor Ester Hammond's group. There Isabel became interested in how hypoxic biology leads to alterations in cellular behaviour, such as increased genomic instability, resistance to therapy, and increased metastatic potential. She then moved to the University of Hull as a lecturer and then later a senior lecturer, where she continued her interest in hypoxic biology and radiobiology, before moving back to Manchester earlier this year to setup her new group as part of the Manchester Cancer Research Centre and funded by CRUK RadNet Manchester.
