Plant reproduction and stress resilience

Group Jiang studies the genetic, epigenetic, and cellular mechanisms underlying plant reproduction, with particular emphasis on male reproduction and reproductive resilience under environmental stress.

We are interested in how chromatin regulation, chromosome dynamics, and cellular processes shape reproductive success, and how these mechanisms enable plants to maintain fertility in changing environments. To address these questions, we investigate the genetic and epigenetic regulation of male reproductive development, with a focus on meiosis, tapetum development, and pollen formation. We also seek to understand how natural genetic variation contributes to reproductive resilience, particularly under elevated temperature.

Our work combines genetics, genomics, epigenomics, and cell biology. We mainly study Arabidopsis thaliana to uncover fundamental mechanisms of plant reproduction, while increasingly extending our research to barley to investigate the genetic and molecular basis of reproductive heat tolerance and crop adaptation.
