Research project ASSESS - Assessment of Knowledge in Educational Systems

ASSESS is a research school focused on conducting knowledge assessments within teacher education. The purpose is to enhance research competence and educational science research to better assess and evaluate knowledge and skills.

The graduate school is conducted in recurring five-year periods, with the number of admitted doctoral students varying between periods. The current initiative, ASSESS III, is the third phase and differs from previous ones in that it is carried out in collaboration between University of Gothenburg, Stockholm University, and Umeå University, with the University of Gothenburg serving as the overall coordinator.

Another new feature of ASSESS III is the collaboration within Stockholm University, where the Department of Subject and Learning Studies works together with the Department of Swedish as a Multilingual Subject.

The graduate school places particular emphasis on developing doctoral students’ quantitative research skills, focusing on critical analysis and in-depth studies of national and international large-scale assessments. An important goal is to make better use of existing large-scale data and evaluations to shed light on key questions in educational research.
