This research area focuses on the lives of infants, toddlers, and preschool children, and their needs in relation to health, care, learning, and development. Particular emphasis is given to children’s voices, participation, and influence.
A central focus is special education perspectives on the conditions and requirements for creating preventive and inclusive learning environments that support every child. These issues are studied in relation to concepts such as ethics, equity, and democracy, and are understood as being shaped by both genetic and environmental factors.
Specific areas of study include the development of early interventions within children's everyday environments, as well as research on health, care, learning, and development. Another important focus is the transitions children experience within and between home, preschool, and school.
