Research project Exhaustion Disorder – an appraisal
Exhaustion disorder is a relatively recent diagnosis which only exists in the Swedish diagnostic system.
The number of patients diagnosed with exhaustion disorder increases steadily, and the symptoms entail considerable suffering, extensive health care utilization, and long periods of sick leave. However, the scientific basis for the diagnosis remains weak.
This project will investigate and critically appraise the diagnostic entity of exhaustion disorder in order to clarify the validity of the concept.
– Exhaustion disorder carries a considerable burden of sick leave in society, and improved diagnosis and treatment would be very valuable in the long run, says Gustav Nilsonne.
The project will lay a foundation for more reliable diagnosis and for high-quality clinical studies which may contribute to evidence-based treatment of exhaustion disorder.
