Research project From Cultures to Communities -virus mediated functionality changes among aquatic bacteria
Viral infection and lysis greatly influence microbial communities and biogeochemical fluxes.
Still, overarching questions regarding how viruses affect bacterial functionality and diversity remain largely unanswered. The main objectives of this project are to identify how viruses impact the metabolic potential of their hosts, both through host reprogramming, expression of viral metabolic genes, and host-community diversification.
The project is funded with 3.76 MSEK by Vetenskapsrådet, to Karin Holmfeldt from Linnaeus University (PI), and Rachel Foster (co-PI)
