Research subject Protein biogenesis
Protein biogenesis includes protein synthesis and for membrane proteins it also includes the process by which the proteins end up located in the membrane.
The process of protein biogenesis is studied by an assortment of different methods at the department, including protein biochemistry, genetics and high-resolution single particle cryo-electron microscopy with the purpose to reveal the basic molecular mechanisms by which protein biogenesis occurs - for instance to what extent the transmembrane regions are inserted into the membrane as they are synthesised.
