Research subject Jurisprudence
Within the field of general legal theory are studied the structure of the legal system, its relationship to the surrounding society and its methodological issues. This subject area is characterized by its general approach to the issues at hand.
In general legal theory, the search for knowledge focuses primarily on phenomena that can be assumed to be common to several areas of law or to the legal system as such. Research can focus on sources of law, concept formation or the emergence of legal rules and system of rules. Other central research areas in the field are legal decision-making, legislative techniques and issues of interpretation in relation to legal argumentation (legal method).
Research results that are related to general legal theory often have great practical relevance for the design and application of legislation. Courts, administrative authorities and individual lawyers benefit from in-depth insights into legal methods, while better knowledge of the foundations and conditions of the legal system increases the understanding of the problems and opportunities of legal work. The work also contributes to increasing knowledge function and limitations of the legal system as a means of control in society.
