Research subject Real Property Law
Real property law is the part of Swedish law that governs the land, appurtenances and fixtures (real property), such as property units. The subject is traditionally divided into a general part (primarily private law) and a special part (primarily public law).
Real property law has traditionally been treated as a subject of its own in Swedish law and consists of the rules that deal with legal matters regarding real property as well as matters connected to real property. Real property or land is divided into property units. Real property law is a vast subject and as previously mentioned, with regulations both of a private law and a public law nature.
The part of the real property law that the Land Code regulates is usually referred to as the general part of real property law (primarily private law) and deals with - for example - practically important issues concerning the ownership, acquisition, usuary rights, security for credit and leases. When it comes to the special part of real property law (public law), it concerns both regulation of land use (for example, formation and alteration of properties, expropriation, land planning and land access for various purposes) and environmental issues (different land use activities and its potential effects on the environment and human health).
