Stockholm university

Stockholm University has a strong standing in the philosophy of science. It takes a meta-level look at the scientific process and asks questions such as: how does the scientific process work? In which sense and on what grounds can scientific investigations be successful? What is the relation between scientific results and truth?

These and similar questions are addressed both at a general level and in the context of special sciences, with a focus on the philosophy of physics. Issues addressed in the general philosophy of science include the scientific realism debate, Bayesian confirmation, natural kinds and the role of thought experiments in science. In the philosophy of physics, topics addressed include the philosophies of string theory, particle physics, and cosmology, with a particular emphasis on meta-empirical confirmation and questions of finality, as well as Everettian quantum mechanics.
