The book was donated by the Chilean Embassy and includes 15 of Gabriela Mistral’s poems translated to Sámi, besides their original version in Spanish. The publication is illustrated with drawings made by pupils from the Sami school in Kiruna.
The Ambassador Tucapel Jimenez Fuentes and the writer Maria José Ferrada who wrote the book’s preface visited the library for the delivery of the copies.
Following this event, María José Ferrada participated in an interview hosted by the Department of Romance Studies and Classics. The conversation formed part of the dissemination activities associated with the Lit-Future project. On this occasion, the discussion focused on the work of Gabriela Mistral and its resonance in the 21st century, the significance of translating selected poems into Sámi, and the thematic concern with nature and its preservation—an aspect present both in Mistral’s oeuvre and in Ferrada’s own literary production.
