Malina Maria Szychowska Postdoktor

Om mig

I am a postdoctoral researcher in the Sensory Cognitive Interaction Laboratory (www.sci-lab.se) at Gösta Ekmans Laboratories, Department of Psychology, Stockholm University. I defended my doctoral thesis in October 2020 at the department of Psychology in Stockholm, Sweden, and I have a background in Physics (BSc in Audio Engineering and MSc in Acoustics from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland). My previous research focused on electrophysiological measures of auditory and cross-modal perception and attention.

Currently, I am the PI of two projects. In a project titled "Navigating the Sensory Landscape: How Our Senses Shape Spatial Memories", funded by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsråded), I use virtual reality and fMRI to investigate whether our spatial memory system holds distinct representations for smell and sound-based memories.

In an upcoming project titled "Sensory competition in spatial memory", recently granted by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, I will systematically investigate and characterize a newly observed memory phenomenon: sensory misattribution asymmetry, where memories of locations of smells have a potential to interfere with memories of sounds, but not vice-versa.
