Om mig

Prof. Hostrup (MD, PhD) is physiologist with expertise in integrative human physiology, pharmacology, skeletal muscle biology, and metabolic health. He leads a research group at Bispebjerg University Hospital, Copenhagen, where advanced human experimental physiology is combined with molecular, cellular, omics-based, and pharmacological approaches.

His research centers on human skeletal muscle plasticity through two connected lines of work: targeted β2-adrenergic receptor signaling and the molecular programs of muscle adaptation. In close collaboration with Prof. Tore Bengtsson, his group investigates how targeted β2-adrenergic signaling regulates muscle mass, glucose handling, metabolic flexibility, and physiological adaptation in humans. In parallel, the group uses proteomics, phosphoproteomics, acetylomics, transcriptomics, and cellular models to define biomarkers and mechanisms of adaptation to exercise, pharmacological stimulation, loading, and metabolic stress.

The long-term objective is to develop evidence-based strategies to preserve skeletal muscle mass and function, improve metabolic health, and address obesity, insulin resistance, healthy aging, and muscle wasting.
