My research examines early modern French prose narratives, with particular emphasis on how literary form mediates questions of agency, affect, and knowledge. I work on seventeenth-century authors such as Marie-Catherine Desjardins (Madame de Villedieu) and Madame de Lafayette, as well as Honoré d’Urfé’s L’Astrée and its wider textual and cultural networks.

I analyze how extended narrative forms construct protected or semi-autonomous spaces in which characters, especially women, negotiate their agency through the circulation, revision, and control of stories about themselves. This work situates narrative practices within early modern regimes of dissimulation, misogyny, and the development of absolutist power, while also attending to the role of salons as feminocentric sites of collective knowledge production that shape both literary form and interpretive communities.

A central strand of my research concerns the representation of passionate love, both as a disruptive force and as a mode of knowledge. I explore how literary texts stage passion as a site where ethical, social, and epistemological questions converge, and situate them in seventeenth-century philosophical debates and the history of emotions.

My broader interests include the interplay between literature and early modern philosophy, literary narrative's display of competing representations, and the shifting role of aristocratic and female subjectivities. In this context, I am particularly interested in how large-scale narrative projects such as L’Astrée generate modular, transmedial, and socially embedded forms of literary thinking.
