Stars play a critical role in astronomy and astrophysics. As astronomers, we use stars for everything from learning about galaxy formation to discovering exoplanets and understanding where the elements come from. In this course, we’ll learn all about the physics of stars, how they live, evolve, and die.

Secondary level (Master) courses

Astrophysical Radiation Processes, AS7005, 7,5 cr

Radiation of all types from a variety of sources permeates all parts of the Universe and is one of the most fundamental messengers we have to understand the Universe. In this course, we will study the physical processes that give rise to the most common types of astrophysical radiation and how to use it to learn about the objects that emit it.

High Energy Astrophysics, AS7008, 7.5 cr

Throughout this course you will get an overview over a number of high-energy processes and phenomena in the Universe.

In this course you will study the physics of stellar atmospheres. You will learn about the formation of spectral lines and run and study your own computer simulation of the atmosphere of the Sun.

Late Stages of Stars, Supernovae and Gamma-ray Bursts, AS7016,7,5hp

In this course you will study fundamental processes governing the final stages of the stellar life cycle, and how some stars end as supernova explosions and gamma-ray bursts.
