As Niklas Janz has taken over as Head of BIG, Mattias Mannervik has taken over as chairman of the Biology Section's Pedagogical Council. Here Mattias writes about the plans for the council's continued activities.
The composition of the Council has not changed, but there are still one or two representatives from each department within the Biology Section and from the Stockholm Resilience Centre (SRC) as well as some student representatives. We are very happy that this academic year we have two regular student representatives and two alternates.
The Pedagogical Council discusses how we as teachers can advise each other on different teaching activities that stimulate learning. During the autumn, we will continue with our lunch seminar series, Teachers' Corner. On 19 November, through the Centre for University Teacher Education (CeUL), we will be visited by Max Scheja from the Department of Education, who will help us deal with heterogeneous student groups. We will discuss how to engage weaker students and at the same time stimulate more motivated students through our teaching.
Further down the line, we are also considering a teachers' retreat, but this will not take place until sometime in late 2025 or early 2026. One possible theme for this internship is how we can better prepare students for the world of work by strengthening their communication skills.
