Opportunities abroad for PhDs
Doctoral students, as both students and staff, have a variety of options to apply for and participate in Erasmus+. Which one is appropriate will depend very much on the purpose of the trip, and the duration of your stay.
Brief summaries with links to more detailed information are below. A grant is paid for all mobility activities within Erasmus.
Erasmus+ student mobility – studies
Full-time studies for a minimum of 2 months or a short-term mobility of 5-30 days at a partner university in a programme country (EU/EEA). You will have the possibility to attend courses or use your mobility period for data collection, writing, etc towards your doctoral thesis (avhandlingsförberedande aktivitet).
Course
You can study courses at a partner university. The study period must take place at one and the same higher education institution for a continuous period of time. The studies must take place full-time (30 credits / semester) and must be credited by the department.
Dissertation preparation activity (avhandlingsförberedande aktivitet)
Mobility does not have to be credited to be approved, but must be approved within your education at Stockholm University. It is a requirement that the doctoral student has a supervisor at the sending university, but there is no requirement for a supervisor at the receiving university. It is however a strong recommendation to have a supervisor at the receiving university as well.
