About me

Claes Granmar is an Associate Professor (Docent) in European Law (EU law and the ECHR-system) at the Department of Law, Stockholm University. Claes is during 2017/2018 an academic visitor at the Institute for European and Comparative Law (IECL) Oxford University, UK, where he is also affiliated with the college Lady Margret Hall. He has earlier been a visiting scholar for one academic year at New York University, USA, (NYU) and for six months at the Max Planck Institute in Munich, Germany. Claes has a combined LL.D from the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy, and Stockholm University. In the course of writing his dissertation, Claes has also worked in the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Court in Luxembourg.

Claes wrote his dissertation in trade mark law and competetion law and he is an expert in intellectual property law. He has gradually broadened his field of interests and specialises now in internal market law and external trade relations law and policy from a constitutional EU law perspective. Cleas is currently writing in the field of EU external trade relations and protection of investments.

Claes is Director of the elective courses in Internal Market Law and in External Trade Relations Law and Policy, and he is the manager of the Nordic Moot Court Competetion in Human Rights Law. Claes is also the Director of the undergraduate course in European law (on sabbatical 2017/2018). Claes was 2015-2017 Director of Studies for the of the master programs at Stockholm University, Department of Law, and he is since 2016 trade union representative for lawyers.
