Research project Legal & Ethical AI Framework in Healthcare
Research projects given in the framework of SPARC – Strategic Partnership for Artificial Intelligence Research and Collaboration
Funded by India’s Ministry of Education since 2023, SPARC Project 2595: "Legal & Ethical AI Framework in Healthcare, with focus on Patient Safety" aims to promote patient safety and develop regulatory guidelines for the deployment of AI in the Indian healthcare systems.
The SPARC project addresses key issues in AI diagnostics and patient record management, focusing on distribution of responsibilities, data protection, informed consent, and ethical considerations. The objective is to provide Indian lawmakers with the necessary groundwork to shape the forthcoming Digital India Act, which aims to regulate digitalization and the deployment of high-risk AI. Researchers from Stockholm University, Symbiosis Law School in Pune, and the University of Milan have joined forces to shoulder this task.
The project will result in an anthology as well as a mapping of problem areas related to AI and healthcare (through focus group discussions). Additionally, it will produce a curriculum for teaching AI regulation in healthcare, specifically tailored to the Indian market.
